Chelsea academy defender Justin Osagie has officially signed a new three-year contract at Stamford Bridge, keeping him at the club until 2029.

The 20-year-old joined the Blues on a free transfer in October, three months after he left Peterborough United, and he made 11 youth-team appearances for the club last season, including seven in the Premier League 2.

Osagie had previously spent time at Southend United, West Ham United and Celtic before a one-year spell at Peterborough ended last July. He made three appearances on loan at Peterborough Sports in the National League North during the 2024-25 season, but he never made a first-team matchday squad during his time at Peterborough.

His move to Chelsea therefore came as a slight surprise, however he has now been rewarded with a long-term professional contract at Stamford Bridge after an encouraging debut season in west London.

In an official statement posted on the club’s website, Chelsea wrote: “Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce that Academy defender Justin Osagie has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2029.

“Osagie joined the Blues during the opening months of the 2025/26 season and has quickly established himself as an important part of the Under-21s squad.

“Operating at centre-back, the defender made 11 appearances across all competitions in his debut campaign.

“Seven of those came in the Premier League 2, while he also featured in the EFL Trophy clash with Northampton Town and made three appearances in the Premier League International Cup. Congratulations, Justin!”

What Chelsea academy stars could leave on loan this summer?

While Osagie has penned fresh terms at Chelsea, a number of his U21 team-mates could be set to leave the Blues on loan during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Jesse Derry has reportedly attracted attention from a number of clubs, including Coventry City, after an excellent first season at Chelsea, while Premier League 2 Player of the Season Shumaira Mheuka is also expected to depart on a temporary basis.

In addition, right-back Genesis Antwi and centre-back Harrison Murray-Campbell also performed extremely well during the 2025-26 season and could be set for loan moves in order to improve their development.
