Manchester United and Chelsea target Benjamin Pavard looks set to stay at Bayern Munich this summer.

The Bavarian club have changed their mind on the Frenchman and decided that he is no longer available, according to SPORT1.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann always wanted to keep Pavard at the Allianz Arena, which he told the media on the club's pre-season tour of the USA.

But the Bayern hierarchy had contemplated selling him in order to raise funds, having signed Matthijs de Ligt in an €80 million deal.

So, even though it now looks likely that he stays in Munich, there is still a chance that Bayern could be persuaded by a serious offer from United or Chelsea.

Man Utd and Chelsea want Pavard

Manchester United face stiff competition from three Champions League teams, including Chelsea, for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs told FooballTransfers.

''This is one to watch,'' Jacobs said. ''Manchester United definitely do need a right-back to come in. Chelsea are also considering Benjamin Pavard as well.

''What’s the challenge with Manchester United with all these transfers they’re going for? As soon as you get a club with elevated European competition like Chelsea, it becomes a real difficult for Man Utd to get a deal over the line.

''That’s where Ten Hag either needs to use his sway as a manager and sell the new era and the strategy, otherwise Manchester United are going to lose out.

''Atletico Madrid are also interested in the player as well. And Juventus have expressed an interest, too.

''There’s going to be heavy, heavy competition for Benjamin Pavard but Manchester United are certainly one of the clubs who have enquired.

''Pavard, let’s not forget, was heavily involved last season. He played 36 games in all competitions. But we know that with the arrival of Noussair Mazraoui and also Matthijs de Ligt, it’s suddenly going to be problematic for him to be as integral at Bayern Munich.

''So Manchester United, Chelsea, Atleti and, to some extent, Juventus remain interested and are looking to take advantage of the fact Bayern might offload him.''
