£70m Bayern offer to £4m Fulham bid: Hudson-Odoi is Chelsea's latest transfer fail

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is hoping for a move away from the club before the transfer window closes.

The 22-year-old is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, and is subject to interest from three Premier League teams, according to the Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella.

Of those teams, Fulham have long been the favourites to sign him, but they saw a £4 million offer rejected earlier in the window.

The Blues are reportedly holding out for £8m, which the Cottagers believe to be too much considering they would be relieving their west London rivals of the winger's £120,000-per-week contract.

This negotiation clearly indicates have far Hudson-Odoi's stock has fallen in recent years, especially after a poor loan at Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Once an England international and arguably Chelsea's most exciting prospect, he now has an awful lot of work to do to salvage his top-flight career.

Chelsea have made a habit of selling youngsters too soon; Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Nathan Ake and Tino Livramento to name a few.

But in the case of Callum Hudson-Odoi, the Blues made a poor decision not to sell in the summer of 2020.

Bayern Munich wanted to take the youngster on a season-long loan, with a £70 million option to buy; his impressive goal against them in the Champions League knockout rounds may have had something to do with their interest.

Chelsea declined the offer, as then-manager Frank Lampard thought Hudson-Odoi had a bright future ahead of him at Stamford Bridge.

And Lampard wasn't the only man to believe in the winger's potential, as Gareth Southgate made him the youngest-ever player to debut in a competitive match for England in 2019, breaking the record set by Duncan Edwards in 1955.

But that doesn't change the fact that Chelsea made the wrong call, in hindsight, and should have taken the £70m in a heartbeat; the Blues are struggling to get 10 percent of that now.
