72 shots in 3 games! Flick’s stunning start with Germany

Hansi Flick continued his sensational start as manager of the Germany national team with another big win on Wednesday evening.
Germany thrashed Iceland 4-0 at Laugardalsvoellur thanks to goals from Serge Gnabry, Antonio Ruediger, Leroy Sane and Timo Werner.

It was a game utterly dominated by the away side, who rained down 21 shots to four on their opponents, had eight corners to none and enjoyed 72 per cent of possession.
Three days ago, Germany thrashed previous group leaders Armenia 6-0 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, with Gnabry (2), Marco Reus, Werner, Jonas Hofmann and Karim Adeyemi finding the back of the net.
In that match, Germany had 73% of the ball, 22 shots to three and six corners to none.
And in Flick’s first game six days ago, Germany won 2-0 at Liechtenstein in another World Cup qualifier courtesy of goals from Sane and Werner once again.
They had 29 shots to two, 15 corners to none and 82% of the possession.
So in total, since Flick took over, Germany have registered an astonishing 12 goals, 72 shots and 29 corners in just three games. They have averaged 76% of possession and conceded no goals against.

Germany now find themselves well in control of their World Cup qualifying group, four points clear of second-placed Armenia with four games remaining.
While former Bayern Munich coach Flick has not faced the toughest of opposition so far, it is certainly an impressive start considering the dire end to the reign of his predecessor Jogi Low.
Low struggled in the last years of his time with Germany, being eliminated in the group stages of the 2018 World Cup and second round at Euro 2020.
