Sadio Mane completed his big-money transfer from Liverpool to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Bayern will pay a fee that could eventually reach €41 million.

The German champions will initially pay €32m, with an extra €9m in add-ons.

The transfer represents Liverpool’s fifth-biggest sale in history and their most expensive sale for four years.

It also represents the seventh biggest signing in Bayern’s history.

Mane has signed a three-year contract in Bavaria.

Bayern initially had two bids rejected for the player – the second of which was described as “laughable”, as Liverpool wanted their valuation for Mane to be met, despite his contract running out next year.

The second bid came up to a total amount of €35m, with €27.5m offered upfront and the rest in bonus payments. Their third bid eventually proved successful.

Mane signed for Liverpool in 2016 for a fee of around €40m and went on to play 269 times for the club, scoring 120 goals.

His arrival is generally regarded as the catalyst to the club's golden era under Jurgen Klopp, which saw them win the 2018/19 Champions League as well as the 2019/20 Premier League - the first domestic league crown for the club since 1990.

What did Mane say?

"This is the right time for this challenge," Mane said of the transfer.

"I felt the great interest of this big club from the start so there was no doubt in my mind."

Bayern president Herbert Hainer added: "Sadio Mane is a world star who underscores the appeal of FC Bayern and increases the attractiveness of the entire Bundesliga.

"It is for such unique footballers that the fans come to the stadiums."

Liverpool have already replaced Mane, having spent €60m on Luis Diaz from Porto in January before purchasing Darwin Nunez for €100m from Benfica this summer.
