Mathew Ryan has suggested that he wants to stay at Arsenal once his loan deal from Brighton expires.

The Australia international keeper made the jump to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window after falling out of favour with his parent club.

Ryan would go on to play three times for the Gunners, conceding only two goals in those games, and has suggested that he is up for the challenge of challenging Bernd Leno for the No.1 spot in the future.

Taking to Twitter, the 29-year-old Ryan wrote: “Have had a blast with this last chapter experiencing all that’s been involved in representing Arsenal. Have learnt so much and enjoyed every minute of it.

“To the many great people around the club whom I’ve had the pleasure of associating with, thank you for making me feel welcome and making the transition into the family a very easy one, I look forward to continuing the relationships well into the future. Excited for what the future will bring.”

Will Arsenal sign Mathew Ryan?

Arsenal are likely to be in the market for a second goalkeeper over the course of the summer after Alex Runarsson failed to impress after arriving from Dijon last summer.

The Iceland international was initially given the responsibility for keeping goal during the Gunners’ cup matches and European fixtures, but failed to impress in these games.

Ultimately, he was relegated to third choice behind Ryan during the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Ryan’s own future at Brighton is uncertain after Robert Sanchez claimed the No.1 spot from him after a third of the season.

It may well be that if Albion receive a solid offer for Ryan, they would be willing to part with him, but whether Arsenal see him as a long-term solution to their goalkeeping issue remains to be seen.
