Through one manner or another, it seems almost certain that Ousmane Dembele will leave Barcelona either this month or at the end of the season.

On Thursday, the Catalan side came out swinging when sporting director Mateu Alemany confirmed that the player had no intention of renewing his contract and would be sold by the end of the month.

As such, Dembele’s name has been linked with a number of potential suitors around the continent as a possible free signing in the summer or for a cut-down price in January.

Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for the France international but perhaps the most bizarre name on the list of potential buyers are Bayern Munich.

While the German club could perhaps afford to sign the winger, there’s very little chance of Bayern having any interest in making a move for Dembele this year.

Why Bayern don’t want Dembele

There are a number of reasons why Bayern wouldn’t consider a move for Dembele in January or indeed the summer transfer window.

Perhaps the first and most obvious one is that the club have no need for another winger at this moment in time.

Julian Nagelsmann has Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman to pick from most weeks, with the latter having just signed a new deal with the club this month. Gnabry is widely expected to follow suit in the months ahead.

Similarly, Bayern also have young talent Jamal Musiala who can also play on either wing. And bringing in Dembele would do nothing but disturb the balance in Bayern’s squad at the moment.

As if that wasn’t reason enough, Dembele’s reported wage demands of no less than €37 million per season would be almost double what Bayern’s highest earners currently receive. And considering the winger’s injury history, that’s well and beyond anything a fiscally responsible club like Bayern would be willing to accept.
