Liverpool are looking to tie defender Joe Gomez down to a new contract at Anfield in the coming months.

Gomez has two years left on his deal, but The Reds don't want to let him get down to a single year as his value will start to depreciate, according to The Mirror.

Whether the 25-year-old is interested in penning a new deal in unclear, though, as he has fallen down the pecking order.

Once Jurgen Klopp's go-to centre-back, alongside Virgin van Dijk, Gomez has now found himself behind Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip.

Indeed, he was limited to just four starts in the Premier League in the last campaign, having only started six in the 2020-21 season.

However, both Van Dijk and Matip turn 31 this summer, meaning there is a need for young defenders in the Liverpool squad.

Should Gomez be let go, The Reds would likely spend a fortune on a long-term successor for the pair - with Konate being the other. So, it would make financial sense to develop him into that player.

There is also this winter's World Cup in Qatar that is of focus, as the former Reading man would love to be a part of Gareth Southgate's squad.

As it stands, he has no chance of making the cut, but that could well change if he has the opportunity to play.

Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliot & Naby Keita

Liverpool are also keen to reward Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliot and Naby keita with new contracts at Anfield.

Jota and Keita performed well in the 2021-22 season, in which Klopp's side won both the EFL Cup and FA Cup, as well as reaching the Champions League final.

Elliott, on the other hand, showed excellent promise prior to his long-term injury at the start of the season.
