Mason Greenwood suspended by Man Utd as man arrested on suspicion of rape

Manchester United star Mason Greenwood has been suspended by the club until further notice, as police confirm that a man in his early twenties has been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

On Sunday, Greenwood’s girlfriend Harriet Robson uploaded a series of videos, images and audio notes on Instagram in which the Man Utd attacker was the subject of some serious allegations.

These included a voice note where a male is attempting to force a female to have sex. And also pictures of Robson with bruises and blood on her face and body accompanied by a caption which reads: “To everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me.”

Police have now confirmed that a man in his early twenties has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

What did the police say about Greenwood?

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed: "Police were made aware earlier today (Sunday 30 January) of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

"An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his twenties has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

"He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing."

Man Utd suspend Greenwood

Man Utd have also released a statement saying they “do not condone violence of any kind" and that Greenwood was suspended from training or matches until further notice.

Mason Greenwood has not responded to the allegations.

He joined Man Utd at six years old and has worked his way through the youth academy.

He made his debut in 2019 and has since made 129 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals.
