Bayern Munich will unlikely be top of the list of favourites for this season’s Champions League but that doesn’t mean the German champions can’t provide a few surprises.

Senior players that have won the competition have moved on, such as David Alaba, Javi Martinez and central defender Jerome Boateng.

And in their place Bayern have put immense belief in young defender Dayot Upamecano, who joined the club from RB Leipzig for £38.25 million in the summer. Marcel Sabitzer and Omar Richards will also be hoping to fill in the gaps in this season’s squad.

Add a new head coach to the mix in the form of Julian Nagelsmann and it remains to be seen whether Bayern can march back to the top of European football or may need to take a step back this season to rebuild their team.
