Former Chelsea youngster Tino Livramento has revealed that he took inspiration from Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala when making his decision to leave the London club for Southampton in the summer.

Despite never making a first team for the Stamford Bridge side’s first team, Livramento made the move to Southampton in the summer for £5.3 million.

The young full-back wasn’t signed to slot straight into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first team but that’s exactly what he’s done and to date Livramento has started each of Southampton’s Premier League games.

Naturally, the young English defender made the move to pick up game time but Livramento has now revealed that it was one of his close friends that convinced him to leave Chelsea to forge his own career.

'Musiala made a huge decision to leave Chelsea'

"I was seeing a lot of young boys playing at the highest level of football. I'm good friends with [former teammate] Jamal Musiala from Bayern Munich and he’s been tearing it up," he said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

"He made a huge decision to leave [Chelsea] when he was younger and was rewarded with the way he’s playing and getting opportunities.”

Like Livramento, Musiala departed the London club as a young player before getting a shot at first team football and has since made a name for himself at Bayern.

And that’s exactly what the full-back is hoping to do at Southampton in the coming years.

"I wouldn’t say he made me but it just highlighted to me that if you want to take that next step in your development maybe this is a different way to go,” added Livramento.

"I thought I was ready to take that step up as an individual and had to look at where was the best pathway for me to maybe get given the opportunity to show now I'm ready to take that next step.

"When Southampton showed interest it was hard for me to turn down a club that has proven to be a great place for young players to grow and get given the opportunity to show a bigger audience that they are ready."
