Arsenal have had a €35 million transfer bid for Sassuolo star striker Gianluca Scamacca rejected, according to a number of reliable sources in the Italian media.

SportItalia transfer guru Alfredo Pedulla, among others, report that Arsenal tabled an opening offer for the Italy international this week.

However, Sassuolo rejected the bid and, according to Calciomercato, have set an asking price of €40m plus add-ons in order to do business.

This price may yet rise, though, if more teams enter the race.

As it stands, Scamacca is not keen on a transfer to Arsenal and would prefer to join an Italian club.

However, as it stands, there is no concrete interest from Serie A sides.

Inter had opened negotiations with Sassuolo at the beginning of 2022 as they looked for a long-term replacement for Edin Dzeko and it had been expected that Scamacca would move to San Siro.

However, the Nerazzurri’s interest has now been put on hold as they have prioritised the return of Romelu Lukaku on loan.

Inter could yet come back in for Scamacca if a deal for Lukaku is not possible due to the high costs.

Elsewhere, Napoli are also interested but would only move if Victor Osimhen departs this summer.

Milan are also admirers but are prioritising other positions for now, whereas Borussia Dortmund were interested several weeks ago but have now moved on.

Therefore, the 23-year-old Scamacca may have to change his mind on Arsenal if he wishes a guaranteed transfer to a top club this summer.

Scamacca scored 16 Serie A goals last season and is expected to become Italy’s long-term number nine. He impressed during Italy’s 1-1 draw with Germany on Saturday night.
