Galatasaray have secured the signing of DeAndre Yedlin from Newcastle on a free transfer.

The Magpies have been keen to free up some squad space in the January transfer window in order to bring in some new recruits, and with Yedlin having started just five games in the Premier League this season, he was deemed surplus to requirements.

Overall, he has played just 776 minutes of football this season, with three of his eight starts coming in the League Cup.

On Monday, deadline day, Yedlin completed his medical before making the move official.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce was asked about the exit, and wished the American well, as well as providing reasoning for the deal saying:

“We have three right-backs, he’s more comfortable at wing-back and it’s no secret we’ve been trying to move to a back four.

“I’d like to wish him best of luck in Turkey, playing for a huge club. We had to let somebody out to let somebody in.”

The Chronicle reported some quotes from a Galatasaray official which confirmed the deal.

“An agreement was reached with the professional football player DeAndre Yedlin and his club Newcastle United Limited to transfer the player free of charge,” the statement from the Turish side read.

Yedlin has signed with Galatasaray until 2023.

Shortly after, Galatasaray also announced the signing of Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica.

Benfica had been on loan at Tottenham, but after failing to make an impact in North London, he was sent back to the Portuguese side before subsequently heading to Turkey.
