Tottenham manager Antonio Conte was full of praise for Christian Eriksen, prompting speculation that the playmaker could be set for a reunion with his old side.

The Brentford midfielder is set to come up against his former Spurs side on Saturday as well as Conte, who managed the 30-year-old at Inter Milan last season.

And the Spurs boss was keen to pay tribute to Eriksen ahead of the game, admitting he was happy for him despite being surprised by the Dane’s return to form.

Conte said: “I don't want to remember what happened to him because it makes me very sad. But to see him now playing at this level is incredible. It's amazing.”

Is Christian Eriksen set for a reunion with Conte and Spurs?

Brentford agreed a short-term contract until the end of the season with Eriksen after he returned to football following his collapse on the pitch during Euro 2020 last summer.

Eriksen has impressed during his stint in west London, scoring once and getting two assists, with Brentford winning all five games he has started.

The ex-Ajax man’s form has seen a host of Premier League clubs take interest in signing him in the summer, with Newcastle and Aston Villa considering approaches.

Spurs passed up the opportunity in January to sign the player who spent seven years with them and Conte applauded Brentford for taking a chance on Eriksen.

The Spurs boss spoke about the similarities between his deployment of Eriksen and the tactics at Brentford, perhaps hinting at the fit for a future move.

“I think he needed a bit of time to understand my idea of football. But when he did this, he became a really important player for us,” Conte said.

“I see at Brentford they are playing sometimes 3-5-2 or 3-4-3. And in 3-5-2, he is doing the same things he did with Inter by being their playmaker.

“I don't remember once that he complained when he was on the bench. A top player, a top person in every moment.

“It will be a great joy to see him on the pitch, playing and doing what he likes to do.”

Conte, then, seems to be open to a reunion with Eriksen at Tottenham next season.
