Why Newcastle are about to ruin Arsenal's January transfer window

The recent Saudi Arabia-led takeover of Newcastle United will have huge ramifications on the world of football.
When the January transfer window opens the St James’ Park side will undoubtedly begin spending money like never before and may quickly muscle their way to the front of the queue for a number of the world’s best players.

However, while Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and other clubs with deep pockets may be trying to size up their new contenders, the club that should be most worried in January is none other than Arsenal.
Newcastle and Arsenal’s shared interests
The reason for that is down to the fact that rather than sign blue-chip players in their first transfer window, Newcastle are likely to go for proven Premier League talents that could help them make smart and incremental steps up the top-flight ladder.
That, undoubtedly, means bids for players like Aaron Ramsey, Raheem Sterling and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who would all not only be obtainable for a club of Newcastle’s newly-acquired means, but are also talents that have been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months.
Like Newcastle, Arsenal are also looking to break into the top four sooner rather than later and as such will be in the same market for the kind of players that Mikel Arteta & Co. would be hoping to sign, but will now be outbid by the Geordie club.
Arsenal have desirable players
The other issue for Arsenal is that, like the aforementioned players, they too have a number of talents that would fit exactly into Newcastle’s new plan for moving up the league table quickly.
While the London club may be more than happy to offload older talents like Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the thought of being forced into selling Kieran Tierney, Bukayo Saka or Emile Smith Rowe to Newcastle will surely concern a number of fans.
Yet that may be exactly what is waiting for Arsenal in the next transfer window, as they prepare themselves to contend with yet another club funded by an entire nation state, which in time may force them to move down a peg or two in the Premier League pecking order.
