On paper - at least - the Portuguese national team is still one of the best on paper in all of Europe and as such the small nation can lay claim to some of the very best players in the world.

So who are the most valuable Portuguese players playing their trade in today’s game at this moment in time?

Using FootballTransfers' algorithm for player value, which takes into account player quality, contract length and a variety of other factors, who are the 10 Portuguese players with the highest price tag?

Portugal's 10 most valuable players

It may come as little surprise to Premier League fans to learn that Manchester dominate the top five.

Ruben Dias is the most valuable at €78.3m, proving why he is considered one of the best centre backs in the world.

His City teammate Bernardo Dias is second at €75.7m after another brilliant season for the champions.

Joao Cancelo completes an all-Man City top three having developed into one of the best full-backs in the world. He is valued €72.4m

While Bruno Fernandes may have seen a slight dip in his form this season, he’s still valued at €71.5m and undoubtedly one of the best No.10s in the world.

Liverpool's Diogo Jota completes the top five at €60m.

Our first non-Premier League Portuguese star is Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix, valued at €52.5m.

In seventh place is technically the first traditional striker in the form of RB Leipzig’s No.9, Andre Silva. The Bundesliga goalscorer is currently valued at €50.5m after a move to the German giants in the summer.

Rafael Leao, Ruben Neves and Jose Sa round out the top 10.

Cristiano Ronaldo's age really counts against him here, as the superstar is only the 13th most valuable Portuguese player.
