Romelu Lukaku has reportedly requested that Inter accept any further offers that are tabled from Chelsea.

Earlier this week, the Blues saw an offer of £85 million plus Marcos Alonso rejected by the Serie A champions.

However, they are expected to continue their pursuit of the Belgian and return with a new offer, with the next expected to be in the region of £95m - £105m plus Alonso.

Lukaku, according to Sky Italy, wants to return to Stamford Bridge to prove himself after previously playing for Chelsea between 2011 and 2014 in an underwhelming spell.

After signing for Chelsea at a young age Lukaku would move out on loan to West Brom and then Everton before joining the Toffees permanently.

He would star for Everton before earning a £75 million transfer to Manchester United.

While he was by no means a flop at Old Trafford, he eventually fell out of favour and joined Inter in 2019, saying afterwards he felt he was made a scapegoat by some at the Red Devils for their failings on the pitch.

At Inter he has enjoyed the best form of his career, scoring 47 league goals in just 65 starts across his first two campaigns in Italy.

In 2020/21 he was one of Inter's key performers as they won Serie A and ended Juventus' decade-long period of dominance.

Chelsea - Football tactics and formations

Edouard Mendy was signed to provide competition to the underperforming Kepa Arrizabalaga last summer and has taken the Spaniard’s place.

The 29-year-old has arguably exceeded expectations since his summer move from Rennes a year ago.

Cesar Azpiliceta, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger are presently the men in command of the central defensive slots, although Jules Kounde may arrive from Sevilla to displace the Spaniard.

With Achraf Hakimi joining PSG instead of Chelsea, Reece James will likely be the first choice at right wing-back.

Ben Chilwell will likely be the preferred option ahead of Marcos Alonso on the opposite side.

In the middle, Jorginho will partner N'Golo Kante, with Mateo Kovacic available in reserve.

It is in the final third where Chelsea are blessed with numerous options, which would only improve with the acquisition of Lukaku.

Should he be signed, there would be a plethora of players vying for the two spots behind the striker.

Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner will all need to fight it out.
