Barcelona spent more than €200 million on new players this summer, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde arriving at the club.
But that inevitably meant that the path to first-team football was blocked for some, and while Barca found buyers for Philippe Coutinho and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, others had to make do with loan deals.
Barca have his the ground running this season, and are currently second to Spanish and European champions Real Madrid in La Liga having gone six games without defeat.

Barca couldn't find a taker for the Dutchman, but they still managed to offload the likes of Samuel Umtiti, even if it was just to alleviate their wage bill for this season alone.

How are they performing?
Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid):
Griezmann has been performing when given the chance, but his minutes have been restricted to the final half-hour of games at most this season. In the second of his two years ob loan at former club Atletico, the Madrid side must make his move permanent for €40 million if he plays more than 45 minutes in over 50 per cent of the available games. Goals against Getafe and Valencia have proven little consolation for the frustrated Frenchman. Barcelona and Atletico finally agreed a permanent deal for Griezmann for a fee of €20m in October, meaning the forward will finally be able to play for Atletico with no strings attached.

Clement Lenglet (Tottenham Hotspur):
Lenglet arrived at Tottenham Hotspur carrying a groin injury, and after being risked from the bench for the opening day 4-1 win over Southampton, didn't make his first start in the Premier League until Gameweek 6. That was another victory - 2-1 over Fulham - and the France centre-back managed 90 minutes. Lenglet has since been a bit part player for Spurs, making just four Premier League appearances so far.
Sergino Dest (AC Milan):
USA right-back Dest moved on transfer deadline day and was handed his debut in AC Milan's 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League last Tuesday, replacing Davide Calabria for the final 33 minutes. Dest has struggled for minutes at Milan, making just two substitute appearances in Serie A so far.
Samuel Umtiti (Lecce):
Umtiti got into France's victorious World Cup-winning squad ahead of Lenglet in 2018, but his stock has arguably fallen further since, with injuries ravaging the left-footer's career since that halcyon summer in Russia. Umtiti made his first appearance for Lecce in a 2-1 loss to Roma.
Nico Gonzalez (Valencia):
Academy graduate Gonzalez left in search of first-team minutes and he has seized the chance given to him by Valencia, featuring in seven La Liga games so far and scoring his first goal for the club in their 5-1 thrashing of Getafe in Week 5.
Francisco Trincao (Sporting Lisbon):
Trincao spent last season on loan at Wolves in England where he was in an out of the team under Bruno Lage, but things have started well at Sporting Lisbon, where he has scored two goals in nine games.
Alex Collado (Elche):
Collado was also on loan last season, at Granada, but his spell at Elche is already proving more fruitful, with the youngster starting four La Liga games and scoring once.
Eze Abde (Osasuna):
Abde has so far played a bit-part role for Osasuna, making five appearances but having yet to score.
