Ramos’ current contract expires in June 2021, and there’s a consensus that both parties want this extended.

Talks over a new deal began earlier this year, but were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic; however, it’s understood that discussions have restarted regarding an extension to Ramos’ and an agreement should be forthcoming.

The 34-year old is now in his 16th season at the Bernabeu, since joining from Sevilla aged just 19, and has amassed over 650 appearances for the club.

His goal against Inter on Tuesday night was his 100th for Los Blancos, and his goal threat no doubt has played a significant role in Real Madrid’s desire to keep him.

  • It’s been suggested that Ramos would like to extend his contract until June 2024, when he’ll be 38, and although Madrid don’t usually offer long contracts to players over 30, their captain may be an exception.

Despite the quality he has in the final third, it’s his leadership and defensive nous that make him invaluable within the Madrid squad.

After the Champions League game against Inter manager Zinedine Zidane said “he is our captain, and our leader, of course we want him forever”.

Whether or not Ramos stays forever, he’s certainly had an incredibly successful career at the Bernabeu.
